Fearne is asking YOU to take part by hosting your own ‘Great Create’ party, which involves registering online, downloading free activity packs and inviting friends, family, colleagues or pupils to discover how good it feels to get creative — all while raising vital funds to help young people improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
From upcycling t-shirts to painting plant-pots, the step-by-step activity packs make it super easy to become a Great Create host.
Whether you take part in school or at home, here are just a few reasons why we think you should take part…
You’ve probably heard of ‘flow’ — that relaxed state you get in when you’re completely absorbed in an activity. Repetitive creative motions like sewing, doodling and painting all help activate ‘flow’. Amazingly, it also reduces anxiety, boosts your mood — and even slows your heart rate.
Hosting a Great Create craft party is a great opportunity to connect with your friends over something more wholesome than a few too many Friday drinks.
As Fearne puts it:
“The Great Create is all about giving yourself, and your friends, the time and space to talk, laugh and share what’s on your mind — all of which is made easier when you’ve got a creative activity to get stuck into.”
Mental health problems affect 1 in 10 children and young people in the UK. In fact, you probably already know a pupil struggling with their mental health.
No matter how small, the donations you collect at your Great Create party will be used to fund The Prince’s Trust’s art therapy workshops, counselling services and other wellbeing support to help young people thrive. Read more about their amazing work here.
From fabric jewellery to t-shirt tote bags and retro hair scrunchies, there’s something for everyone.
The Prince’s Trust have even released step-by-step activity guides for The Great Create — all designed by young people who have been supported by the Trust to set up arts and crafts businesses (so you can be sure the end-result will look amazing).
Has your favourite t-shirt got a hole? Turn it into a tote bag. Scraps of fabric destined for landfill? Make a cute scrunchie. Tea gone cold? Style it into an artwork.
Nothing gets wasted when you join a Great Create party!
It’s no surprise the activity designed by Fearne Cotton involves colour therapy – she’s a huge advocate for the activity.
