Happy January!

I hope the start of the new term is going well and everyone had a lovely break. Christmas feels like a distant memory. I was quite looking forward to going back to school. Our new topic is Space (which I love) and the children were so excited before Christmas to begin this topic. From discussions at school, many of us have gone through the motions during the first week back (me included)! I’d thought I’d share them with you.

Monday – Full of enthusiasm.

I was raring to go. I was prepared for the day ahead, ready to greet the children and get right back into the swing of things. Worksheets had been photocopied and trimmed, slides on the computer had been tweaked and pencils had been sharpened. Ready to rock and roll!

Tuesday – I’m exhausted!

Where did all my energy go? I felt tired, my eyes were tired, and I just couldn’t get my words out properly when teaching, which meant I had some very strange looks from the children! What had happened to me in the space of 24 hours!?

Wednesday – Recovering

An early night did the trick a little bit. After completing our ‘Daily Mile’, I was feeling a little less tired. However, I managed to convince myself that it was Tuesday…all day! On every single slide on the computer, I had written Tuesday, which the children kindly pointed out to me every lesson. Still not quite recovered it would seem from my tiring Tuesday!

Thursday – Roll on Friday!

How did Thursday come around so soon? I was very surprised by how quickly the first week was flying by. The children had produced some amazing work, which reminded me of one of the many reasons why I love my job. They had remembered things I had taught them last term and showed such great enthusiasm. I have to admit though, knowing it was definitely Thursday made me want Friday to arrive ASAP!

Friday – Got that Friday feeling!

Horay for Fridays! The children were beginning to tire after their first week back. Lessons were as active as possible to reduce the marking workload. I just wanted to be home for the weekend if I’m totally honest... I enjoyed my first week back overall though. I like having the routine. With next week set to be just as busy, I made sure planning was nearly complete on the Friday, and my classroom was super tidy before leaving. Tidy room = tidy mind and all that...
